Human tetanus Ig
Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis in persons w/ recent injuries & whose prior vaccination regimen was incomplete or is unknown, whose w/ severe deficiency in Ab production. Therapy of clinically manifest tetanus.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn Prophylaxis 250 IU IM. Wounds which cannot be surgically managed w/in 24 hr, deep or contaminated wounds w/ tissue damage, burns, congelations, tissue necrosis, septicemic abortion Adult weighing more than the ave 500 IU IM. Extensive burns 500 IU IM, followed by a 2nd inj of 250 IU IM of Tetagam P at the end of the exudative phase (about 36 hr after the occurrence of the burn). Therapy Single doses of 3,000-6,000 IU IM.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Intravascular inj.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ IgA deficiency. Observe patients for 20 min after administration. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Local reaction at inj site. Rarely, hypotension, dyspnoea, cutaneous reactions, allergic reactions, chills, fever, headache, malaise, nausea, vomiting, arthralgia & moderate back pain, CV reactions.
Drug Interactions
Allow 3 mth interval prior to vaccination of live virus vaccines. False positive result in serological testing.
